The People Nobody Knew: The Kashubes of Jones Island

  • A cultural anthropologist and a local expert on maritime history are your guides
  • Visit Jones Island area and learn about the urban fishing village (now extinct) that once flourished on the island.
  • Learn the importance of Jones Island in the development of Milwaukee
  • Eat at a rustic riverside restaurant overlooking the island.
  • Watch an original documentary of the cultural history of the (Baltic) Kashubian fishing village.
  • Enjoy a riverboat trip near the original site of the fishing village.

Kiren fish

Tour meets at corner of Becher/Bay and Kinnickinnic Avenues (meet in front of the Bay Street Pub at 340 E. Bay). Lots of street parking is available in the area. This is a rustic tour, so dress casually. Minimal walking, but participants must be mobile enough to board the steep ramp to the boat. Contact us to book special group times & rates.

$40 for each tour; $35 for seniors over 61, students, and children under 16. Pay by check or cash at time of tour. To avoid penalty charges, make sure any needed cancellations are made 24 hours before the tour is scheduled.
